In 1984, Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. began as a home-based business while the owners were going to school at the University of Florida. In March of 1987, Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. opened a retail store in a small room behind the historical Marvin's Barber Shop, in the town of Newberry, Florida. One year later, Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. moved to the front of the building (next to Marvin's) so that we could serve the public even better.
In October of 1989, Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. moved into our current location. At the same time the Pickett's opened up a restaurant by the name of Cherry's Cafe. The time finally came when the Pickett's decided to make the big decision. In 1991, they closed the doors to Cherry's Cafe and remodeled the entire building to make Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. a traditional gun shop. The rapid expansion and growth of Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. was mainly due to the owner's ability to multitask. Over the years, the owners worked as Pony Express drivers, mowing lawns, maintaining rental units in Gainesville, and going to many, many gun shows. In late 1994, they added the first addition to the building to make even more room for the business to grow.
In 2006, Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. made a very big move by adding on another 3100 square feet to the store. This expansion was designed to serve the public with even more selection than before. Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. has evolved into a full service gun shop with two highly experienced gunsmiths. Pickett Weaponry Service, Inc. is still owned and operated by the Pickett family located here in beautiful Newberry, Florida.
There are currently four members of our staff that have served, or are currently serving, in the Florida National Guard. Two of the owners served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and have now come home safely. From the very beginnings of mowing lawns and delivering packages (to help pay the bills) to our store growing to over 1 million in sales a year. We are still one of the few traditional gun stores left in Florida.
